Paul Wartelle, a graduate of Georgetown University and Case Western Reserve Law School, has practiced law for over 30 years, predominantly in the area of tenant and housing rights. A former “impact litigation” attorney for San Francisco Legal Aid, he has litigated cases of significant interest in Superior Court, the Courts of Appeal, Federal Courts, and as Amicus Curiae before the California Supreme Court. Mr. Wartelle was trial attorney in the Balmoral Hotel Tenants’ Association v Lee case and in the Negoesco v Romanov case, among others. (see verdicts and settlement) He has extensive experience in mold, plaintiff, and class action litigation. Mr. Wartelle is a former commissioner of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. Published opinions include Action Apartment Association v City of Santa Monica (Aug. 2007, Cal. Supreme Court); Terminal Plaza Corp. v City and County of San Francisco (1986) 177 Cal.App.3d 892; and King v Massarweh (CA 9, 1986) 782 F2d 825. Publications include “Private Enforcement of Federal Statutes: The Sec. 1983 Remedy”. 9 Hastings Constitutional Quarterly.
